Ever since Disney dropped the Frozen 2 teaser trailer back in February, we've been desperate for an official, proper trailer giving us a first look at what Elsa and all our faves are up to these days.
While LGBTQ+ fans have always been gunning for Disney to make Elsa explicitly queer or a lesbian , we've had little-to-no clues as to her sexuality until now. As per usual, after the new trailer dropped gay Twitter went into overdrive - studying it for hints that we're finally going to get the gay Disney character the world needs RN.
So what about the trailer has got fans thinking Elsa is a lesbian?
Firstly, the trailer has dropped during Pride Month. Need we say more?
We also see Elsa having a good old deep and meaningful with a troll, who tells her "the past is not what it seems. You must find the truth." The troll adds, "We have always feared Elsa's powers were too much for this world. Now we must hope they are enough."
Sure, you could take this at face value. Maybe the powers this troll is banging on about are her ability to turn literal oceans into ice (anyone else get legitimate chills at that part in the new trailer?) But maybe, as fans are speculating, her power that is "too much for this world" is that she's queer and world cannot handle it.
"You must find the truth," the troll also tells her. And LGBTQ+ fans were quick to respond with simple but effective "the truth is you're a lesbian" tweets.

when elsa comes out as a lesbian in the frozen sequel that's when we'll know that the victory of the gays is complete and all-encompassing- harry distaff (@weevilofdoubt) June 11, 2019
Is Disney dropping the trailer for Frozen II in the middle of Pride month a signal that we are going to get the Elsa lesbian love story that we deserve?- Turkey Leg Jeff (@TurkeyLegJeff) June 11, 2019
Others made a case for why they'd rather she wasn't a lesbian, with one users hoping she is actually asexual.
Unpopular opinion: I DON'T want Elsa to be a lesbian.- S.B. Porter (is in serious MG mode!) (@SBPorter9987) June 11, 2019
I actually want her to be ace.
Reasoning: This franchise is focused on familial love, rather than romantic love. Putting too much focus on a romantic relationship for Frozen 2 - no matter if it's gay or straight (1/2)
Naturally, there'll be people who think having an out lesbian character in a Disney movie wouldn't be appropriate. But blogger and Cosmopolitan UK contributor Lottie L'Amour perfectly articulated why this view is one of blatant homophobia. "The majority of people are saying they hope not because they don’t know how to explain lesbianism to their children. Chances are if you don’t know how to explain it, you’re a homophobe," she wrote on Twitter .
She added, "You don’t need a fucking sex education lesson to describe love between two people."
I’ve just seen a thing on LinkedIn about Elsa in frozen possibly having a lesbian partner. The majority of people are saying they hope not because they don’t know how to explain lesbianism to their children. Chances are if you don’t know how to explain it, you’re a homophobe 💁🏻♀️✨- lottie l’amour 💟 (@Lottie_Lamour) February 18, 2019
Until now, we've only had a tiny little glimpse of LGBTQ+ characters in the Beauty and the Beast remake starring Emma Watson. Gaston's little mate LeFou was seen dancing with another man at the end, but it was about two seconds of not-exactly-in-yer-face gayness.
Isn't it about time Disney did its civic duty and made a main character explicitly LGBTQ+? (Hint: it's yes, the answer is yes.)
